What is a flotation tank?
The DAF tank (English name is Dissolved Air Flotation) performs the function of separating dissolved solids (suspended sludge, grease) based on different gas dispersion levels.
- The tank installation location is usually located immediately after the pre-treatment stage or the beginning of the biological tank (reducing pollutant load) or many cases of final installation to do in water.
- The diffuser placed inside the tank performs the function of agitating the high-pressure air to form tiny bubbles that adhere to the solids with a tendency to rise to the surface.

Working principle of DAF tank
- Operating the DAF tank through a high-pressure pump, the wastewater is mixed until the air is saturated.
- The water then moves through the flotation chamber, the valve reducing the pressure to atmospheric pressure suddenly.
- Dissolved gas separation, air bubbles with small size (0.1 – 100 micrometers) clinging to the dirt move upwards and are removed by specialized equipment.
- High treatment efficiency when removing grease, sludge, COD, BOD, SS up to 95%.

Design parameters of the DAF tank
- Water retention time: 20 – 60 minutes.
- Retention time of dissolved gas tank water: 0.5 – 3 minutes.
- Surface load: 2 – 350 m3/m2/day.
- Compressed air pressure: ranges from 3.5 to 7 atm.
- Air consumption: optimal from 15 – 50 l/m3.
